For the avid hiker, climber, biker, or outdoor enthusiast, you’ve probably heard of or been to Red Rock Canyon Open Space, with its mesmerizing 1500 square foot open space, there are plenty of opportunities to explore as you visit!

About Red Rock Canyon Open Space

Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a 1,474 acre city park and is located on the west side of Colorado Springs, adjacent to Manitou Springs. A series of parallel red rock ridges called “hogbacks”, sandstone rocks, and eroded canyons are what make the open space so unique and loved by many.

Admission here is free, and the park is open from 5 am-11 pm. You’ll be able to climb, hike, walk, bike, or horseback ride anywhere you like during these hours.

Hiking, Climbing, Biking, and Horseback Riding

A permit is required to outdoor climb at Red Rock Canyon, and you must renew this permit annually. Taking a seasoned climber with you is advised. You can make your own routes, or utilize and try different ones previous climbers have set out. If you prefer to hike, walk, bike, or ride horses, there’s plenty for you to do. 

There are 11 marked trails, all varying in difficulties. Each range from 1.7 to 5.4 miles long and from 6,141 to 6,866 feet above sea level. You’ll definitely enjoy the time with fresh air and gorgeous mountain views.
