Garden of the Gods
Gorgeous mountain views, hiking trails, and scenery are all great things to be found while you are in beautiful Colorado Springs. If you head to the West side of the Springs, you will find all of these things (and more!). Today, specifically, we will be talking about our iconic Garden of the Gods – a must see for anyone just passing through the area or those who are local. With trails for the new hiker to the most experienced, the park will offer many fun ways to spend the day while taking in all that Colorado has to offer! The park allows for hiking, biking, and even rock climbing! You have roughly 21 miles of trail to pick from so you are sure to find one that suits your needs for the whole family—including the dog (leashes required for the majority of the park). For an easy walk, we suggest the Perkins Central Garden Trail, which offers a 1 ½ mile path there and back, with a small 30 foot rise in elevation. The more experienced hikers may find the Palmer Trail to be more exciting! This trail takes you for a 3 mile hike that circles nearly the whole park.
If you are wanting a full list of the trails within the park, be sure to stop by the Visitor’s Center for a free color map of the area, or you can print one off here. The Visitor’s Center is another great way to spend some time while visiting the park. You will find fun, hands on exhibits regarding the geology, flora and fauna as well as the history of the area. You will also find Adventure Programs, which help to maintain and conserve the park. For small fees, these programs offer guided and themed hikes and even painting classes! So be sure to look for this information as you walk through the center. If you are looking for a calendar of programs, you can find all that information along with prices here.
As far as making your way to the park—no fear, we have that information for you, too! The park’s address is 1805 N 30 the Street in Colorado Springs. If you are on I25, take the exit for highway 24 and head west towards Manitou Springs. Take a right onto N 31st street, and then take a left on N. 30th Street. You will find the Nature Center and parking for the park on this road. The hours for the Garden of the Gods visitor center are 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday thru Thursday and 9:00am to 5:00pm, Friday thru Sunday. The park itself is open 5:00am thru 9:00pm daily. Did we mention the park is FREE and open to the public? So get out and make those plans! Spring will be here before you know it and the Garden of the Gods is calling your name!
