Weekend Destinations Near Colorado Springs
While living in Colorado Springs may seem like a life-long vacation in and of itself, we understand your need and want to get away for a little bit to see more of what Colorado has to offer in the way of outdoors, skiing, ghost towns, history and so much more. Here are some great weekend destinations near Colorado Springs to check out for that weekend trip, while staying near and dear to our city!
The town of Breckenridge is a destination city where you’ll find tons of things to do year-round, from the traditional skiing in the winter months, to trail hiking and shopping during the warmer summer months, to leaf peeping and fun festivals in the fall time. Really, no matter which time of year you choose to visit Breckenridge will be wrong. With it only being a little over 2 hours away from Colorado Springs, this would make a perfect weekend getaway for you to pack your bags and take in a different view for a few days! Reserve a room at the ski resort for a couple of nights and enjoy ski lessons, beautiful lodging, dining, and more during your stay. We truly think the whole family will love your experience in Breckenridge.
Located about two and a half hours away is the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. Here you will find roughly 133 miles of hiking trails, beautiful lakes and streams all offering gorgeous views of the mountain peaks, as well as campgrounds and activities that the whole family can enjoy. While enjoying your camping experience here, be sure to look out for the wildlife around the area to include moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, mountain lion, black bears, and more. Don’t forget your fishing gear as well! A weekend will truly be well spent camping out in this beautiful wilderness area.
Located a little over four hours away, you can head southwest to the town of Pagosa Springs and enjoy a weekend full of comforting hot springs, over 650 miles of hiking trails, 2.5 millions acres of Colorado wilderness, fishing, waterfalls and so much more. You’ll have access to the beautiful Wolf Creek Pass that gives you the most breathtaking views from atop the continental pass. You’ll also have access to the San Juan River in the summer months where you can kayak and raft right in town! The outdoor activities are endless here in Pagosa Springs and we know you’ll be planning your next weekend trip back here as soon as you are able to.
If you’re looking for a scenic drive, we highly suggest you check out Phantom Canyon Road. Connecting the towns of Florence and Victor, this hidden gem is full of mining history, ghost towns, photo opportunities, hiking and camping. The road is unpaved and narrow, but we highly suggest you enjoy the views and scenery. Expect the drive to take about 2 hours with two tunnels and three elevated bridges. Take your time on this trip—you won’t regret it!
Almost two and a half hours away is the popular area of Estes Park. Known for the famous Stanley Hotel where The Shining was filmed, you’ll find a few different options to enjoy our stay within Estes Park. This is a great place for weddings, groups, and business ventures throughout the entire year. While you may be enjoying your stay at the hotel, don’t forget to head downtown for shopping and dining! There is also the opportunity for white water rafting, 4×4 tours of the area, horseback riding, fly fishing and so much more to make your weekend getaway absolutely perfect.
