Colorado Springs Military Presence

Colorado Springs is home to a few different military installations which make our community unique in that people come from all over with a wide variety of life experiences. From the United States Army to the United States Air Force, we are surrounded by some of our nation’s finest soldiers and airmen. We know that the consistent moving and relocation within the military can be taxing, so we are here to help offer you support as you embark on your next adventure! Read on to learn more about each military installation and the surrounding area.

The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs

The United States Air Force Academy is a college in Northern Colorado Springs that trains up “leaders, innovators, warriors and wingmen, ready to serve in the world’s greatest air and space forces.” They offer a variety of courses and training to help you become your best and most well-rounded self in your years there.

The academy is also open to the public with many activities for you and your family and friends to enjoy! Perhaps the most known is the beautifully designed Cadet Chapel. This chapel soars to an impressive 150 feet and boasts unique architectural design. On the Air Force Academy’s website, they say “It serves as an all-faith center of worship for cadets and includes Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Buddhist chapels, an All-Faiths Room, and a Falcon Circle, each with its own entrance. The Chapel is capable of holding services in all rooms at one time.” While the Cadet Chapel is currently undergoing renovations, there are still plenty of options for you to consider. At the planetarium, you can learn about a variety of STEM related topics through full-dome and IMAX films, live talks and educational events. Fort Carson Military Base in Colorado Springs

In Southern Colorado Springs, you will find the Fort Carson Military Base. This base stretches roughly 137,000 acres and is home to hundreds of military families and soldiers. Fort Carson offers many family-friendly and community building events to foster a welcoming and enjoyable experience to those living there. Peterson Space Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base

As you journey east of Colorado Springs, you will find the Peterson Space Force Base and the Schriever Air Force Base. These bases have an agreement with the city to use their runways for our very own airport allowing visitors from all over the world to fly into Colorado Springs. Cheyenne Mountain Complex

The Cheyenne Mountain Complex is a United States Air Force installation. This installation is an alternate command center for NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) and USNORTHCOM (United States Northern Command), and is also used for crew training. This base does not allow visitation as it is a highly secure, active military installation.
